Timber Cruising and Timberland Appraisals

Forest Inventory Group offers Timber Cruising and Timberland Appraisal services specifically designed for the client's requirements.

Besides being able to determine the total inventory of a timberland, Forest Inventory Group can determine how much timber could be harvested from a property in the short term and advise clients on logging costs and market values. Our past projects include executing fairly complex inventory sample designs under the direction of a forest biometrician, Dr. Kim Iles. Newest methods of teaching: research papers. In addition to employing the conventional timber inventory techniques, we've specialized in the following techniques that allow us to greatly reduce the most expensive part of any inventory effort, the field work. These alternative inventory methods can be used to more quickly and cheaply "tune up" a client's existing inventory figures or as completely new inventory efforts. app maken

Forest Inventory Group can appraise timber property based on the volume of timber on a piece of property, the value of the timber and the value of the property.

In addition to existing timber volume information, Forest Inventory Group can also provide timber growth information to project future volume to allow the landowner to adopt the appropriate management options.

Log Scaling, specializing in saw mill recovery studies

Forest Inventory Group can determine the gross and net volume of logs. The Associates can also determine the grade and sort of logs, and are experienced at marking buck cuts on long logs to improve grade or sort.

Hardwood Tree and Log Grading

Forest Inventory Group can expertly grade hardwood trees or log segments, using the "Kenna" grading protocol developed by the US Forest Service to determine the grade, which then reveals how much upper grade lumber can be recovered from the specimen. Establishing the grade of a tree or log specimen can allow a client to determine if that specimen has a higher value if processed into lumber, or instead sold by the ton to the chip or firewood markets.

Land Reconnaissance for the Timberland Buyer

Forest Inventory Group can provide reconnaissance service in a timely manner that can provide clients with enough information to proceed with initial land purchase negotiations. This recon can help the client determine the general value of the property prior to, or without the need for, doing a more complete evaluation later. The technical information that can quickly be determined about a property includes: ocular estimates of the timber value, water availability, potential sites for home construction, rock quarry potential, possible access road problems, etc. Although the most effective recons are accomplished by actually visiting a property, Forest Inventory Group can provide a client with much valuable preliminary information about a property using aerial photographic interpretation alone.
